Helga Kristín Jóhannsdóttir, manager of the Geothermal Park of ON Power, wrote an article published on Vísir about how Hellisheiði has evolved into a powerful platform for businesses that build their operations on energy, resources, and innovation.

In the article, Helga Kristín points out that location is increasingly important in a world where competition for clean energy, infrastructure, and skilled personnel is growing. Businesses relying on energy, heat, and water need access to reliable infrastructure and an environment that supports development and growth in the long term.

The Geothermal Park at Hellisheiði offers companies access to renewable electricity, geothermal heat at different temperatures, hot and cold fresh water, geothermal fluid and minerals, in addition to shared infrastructure and zoned plots for development.

The article also discusses how proximity to the capital region creates a unique competitive position. Just about a twenty-minute drive from Reykjavík, companies gain access to a specialized workforce, the university community, research institutions, and a vibrant innovation environment. This combination of resources, infrastructure, and knowledge is rare on an international scale.

The article also looks to the future, as starting in 2027, increased emphasis will be placed on providing facilities for companies in the Geothermal Park to test new ideas and technological solutions under real conditions. There, a new center for innovation and research, Glóð, will play a key role and support the development of solutions based on the area's energy and resources.

The article was written in anticipation of the World Geothermal Congress 2026, the geothermal sector's largest international conference, where Icelandic specialists will present Iceland's knowledge and experience in the field of geothermal energy and discuss future opportunities in the Geothermal Park as well as in the sector as a whole.
