We Will Reduce the Carbon Footprint

Doing nothing is not an option, and therefore ON Power intends to be an important part of the solution to combat climate change.

This is what we can do:

Care for resources and show respect for nature

Repair and revegetate soil disturbances

Engage in carbon sequestration through forestry

Transform carbon dioxide into rock with the help of Carbfix

Effective development and green innovation to fully utilize geothermal energy in a sustainable manner

Choose renewable energy sources over others

Be a role model in environmental matters and encourage others to reduce their carbon footprint

Carbon Neutrality by 2030

Our geothermal power plants have one of the smallest carbon footprints in their category – but we want to do better and be a role model for others in environmental matters. The production of electricity from geothermal energy results in the emission of gasses along with the steam in geothermal areas, including carbon dioxide (CO2).

What are Carbon Footprints and Why do they Matter?

The carbon footprint of goods and services indicates the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their production and use. The smaller the carbon footprint, the less impact the product or service has on climate change and global warming. The carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the geothermal power plants of ON Power are low compared to other forms of electricity generation.

Geothermal: 7.5 g of CO2 per kWs
Coal: 800 g of CO2 per kWs

Icelandic Ingenuity Reduces the Carbon Footprint!

ON Power has developed and built a unique mechanical workshop where repairs on the power plant's equipment are carried out with world-class quality. Thus, the knowledge remains in Iceland with increased value creation in jobs, and additionally, we reduce the carbon footprint of the operation by repairing heavy and large equipment on-site instead of having to ship it abroad for repairs as was previously necessary.
