ON Power and KLAK collaborate, and Hringiða visits the Geothermal Park

ON Power and KLAK Icelandic Startups have decided to collaborate in the field of innovation with an emphasis on sustainable resource use, environmental protection, and energy transition.
The first item in the collaboration was a visit by startups in Hringiða, KLAK's accelerator for green solutions, to ON Power's Hellisheiði Power Plant.
During the visit, Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, ON's innovation lead, presented the company's operations, with special emphasis on the opportunities inherent in ON's Geothermal Park and the Glóð innovation platform and how ON is working systematically to create a platform for innovation related to geothermal utilization. Salka Kolbeinsdóttir from Carbfix then gave a presentation about Carbfix and took the group on a field trip to the borehole house.
The visit generated great interest among the Hringiða participants, and KLAK's representatives envision that startups from the accelerator can, over time, develop further into the environment of Glóð and the Geothermal Park, where unique opportunities are created to test and develop solutions in a real-world setting.

The collaboration between KLAK Icelandic Startups and ON was recently sealed with a handshake by Ásta Sóllilja Guðmundsdóttir, CEO of KLAK, and Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, ON's innovation lead. The collaboration includes both the development of joint projects and mutual support for each party's projects. Among other things, it will focus on connecting entrepreneurs with the opportunities inherent in ON's operations, including in Glóð and ON's Geothermal Park, as well as opening access to the platform and support that KLAK offers. Work will also be done jointly to identify opportunities in domestic and international innovation projects, support the building of a strong entrepreneurial community in Iceland, and work on the development and implementation of projects that contribute to a sustainable future.
“The collaboration with ON is an important step in strengthening innovation in sustainability and energy transition in Iceland. By connecting entrepreneurs with the Geothermal Park and Glóð, real opportunities are created to develop solutions with global impact,” said Ásta Sóllilja.
Ingunn added that the collaboration with KLAK was a key step in strengthening the community of entrepreneurs around Glóð and the Geothermal Park. “By combining our strengths, we can better support the development of new projects and create a stronger channel for innovation and solutions that support a sustainable future,” said Ingunn.
It will be exciting to watch this collaboration grow and the projects that will emerge from it in the coming months.
