Eco-friendly medals made from recycled plastic for the ON Geothermal Run (Jarðvarmahlaup ON)

Participants in the ON Geothermal Run will all receive a medal made of recycled plastic upon finishing, in memory of a fun run in the spectacular landscape of Hengill.

To mark the second year of the Geothermal Run, Orka náttúrunnar has worked with Plastplan to design and produce unique medals that are handmade from recycled plastic. The medal is eco-friendly and is a symbol of the strong emphasis placed on environmental issues, sustainability, and the circular economy at ON Power.

"We wanted to do something different and create a medal that reflects both the runners' experience and the values that ON Power stands for. When we got to know Plastplan's work, we were sure they were the right partner," says Tinna Jóhannsdóttir, director of marketing and sustainability at ON Power. The project fits well with ON's focus, where recycled raw materials get a new lease of life instead of becoming waste.

On one side of the medals, designed by Björn Steinar at Plastplan, you can see the running route along with the ON logo, while on the other side is the name of the run along with a graphic representation of the Hengill area where the run takes place. Each medal is handmade, and therefore production is both time-consuming and difficult, as around 500 medals need to be prepared for each run.

The ON Geothermal Run has enjoyed great popularity among runners. Just like last year, this year's run sold out in a short time, and it is clear that the running community has welcomed this fun event in the Hengill area with open arms.
