Environmental affairs on the agenda of ON Power

A new episode of the podcast Orkan í náttúrunni has been released. This time, Magnea Magnúsdóttir, Environmental and Land Reclamation Manager at ON Power, and Belinda Eir Engilbertsdóttir, Land and Property Team Leader at Reykjavík Energy, discuss how the companies work to protect nature alongside the utilization of renewable resources.

In the episode, they go over diverse projects in the fields of land reclamation, ecosystem restoration, and land care. They discuss, among other things, the considerations made when entering new areas to explore geothermal resources for further energy production, as is currently being done by Reykjavíkm Energy and ON at Meitlar. At that stage, Magnea and Belinda lace up their hiking boots, explore and experience the area, and then work with project managers and others who will be working in the area to select the best locations for drill pads, access roads, and more, ensuring they blend as well as possible into the landscape and cause minimal disruption.

In the episode, our environmental women, as they call themselves, also share stories from the Hengill area, one of the country's most significant geothermal sites, where ON's operations and unique nature coexist. Hengill is a popular outdoor recreation area with a 130-kilometer network of marked hiking trails, where strong emphasis is placed on allowing people to enjoy the area while its resources are utilized in a responsible manner.

Next Thursday, ON's Geothermal Run (Jarðvarmahlaup ON) will be held in the Hengill area, making it ideal to listen to the episode to learn about the nature through which participants run and the extensive work that goes into protecting and restoring the area.
