Energy is a cornerstone of modern society

An interview with Árni Hrannar Haraldsson, Managing Director of ON Power, was published in Morgunblaðið's Energy Edition before the weekend, where he discusses the importance of energy for Icelandic society, energy security, and the future development of infrastructure.

Árni emphasizes that energy is both a valuable and limited resource that must be utilized responsibly.

"Iceland is incredibly rich in clean energy, and it is far from being a given," he says, adding that it is important to stay ahead of society's growing energy needs.

Geothermal energy, which ON utilizes in Hengill, is not only a key component of the company's electricity production but also a prerequisite for heating a large part of the capital area. "Every year, our power plants produce about 60% of the hot water that goes to the residents of the capital. If we do not continue drilling and thus maintain production, it is straightforward that the district heating system will become less secure, increasing the load on the low-temperature areas utilized by Veitur. We want to avoid such a situation." In the interview, he also discusses extensive investments in energy infrastructure in the coming years and new opportunities in innovation and deep utilization of geothermal energy," says Árni Hrannar.

Finally, he underlines that energy is a fundamental pillar of modern society and a prerequisite for quality of life and progress in Iceland.
