ON increases charging capacity at IKEA in Kauptún

ON Power has recently completed a significant upgrade to its charging facilities at IKEA in Kauptún, Garðabær. With the upgrade, the charging capacity of the area has been greatly increased and the service to electric vehicle owners significantly improved, as the stations have been very well utilized since they were first installed.
Now, eight new 240 kW fast charging connections have been added to the existing connections in the area, which also features CHAdeMO and CCS connections as well as 22 neighborhood charging connections. The diverse charging needs of users should therefore be well met, whether it involves fast charging on the go or longer stops.
"At IKEA, we always focus on making everyday life more convenient. Accessible and powerful charging solutions are a part of that, and have been for the past 10 years. The collaboration with Orka náttúrunnar has gone extremely well, and the service is in line with the demands and expectations we place on service providers in these matters," says Guðný Camilla Aradóttir, Marketing and Communications Manager of IKEA. She adds that it is also of great importance to be able to support staff in choosing more environmentally friendly transport. "That is why we offer dedicated charging stations for our staff. With that, we can together do our part to reduce the environmental impact of transport."
According to Úlfar Linnet, Head of Consumer and Business Solutionsat ON Power, cooperation with companies like IKEA is key to the ongoing development of charging infrastructure.
"It is extremely important to have a good partnership with companies that want to participate in improving services for their customers. If we are to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves in the energy transition in the coming years, we all need to join forces," says Úlfar.
He also mentions that ON is currently working with numerous businesses and municipalities across the country that want to accommodate the ever-growing group of electric vehicle owners.
"We see an increased demand for charging where people are on the go and utilizing services, – whether it is shopping, recreation, or something else. There, it is crucial that charging solutions are accessible and reliable."
ON has been a leader in the energy transition from the beginning and opened its first fast charging station in 2014. Today, the company operates an extensive charging network with over 1,000 connections across the country.
"We intend to remain at the forefront. We sense a great deal of trust from businesses and partners who rely on us for the journey they are on, and we strive to offer solutions and services that meet those demands," says Úlfar.
The upgrade in Kauptún is a clear example of how cooperation between businesses can improve services to the public and support the ongoing energy transition in transport in Iceland.
