Innovation does not thrive in uncertainty

ON Power sees innovation as a key factor in ensuring sustainable operations, technological leadership and the company's future resilience for the benefit of customers, society and the environment. Research and innovation are the main driving forces in the development of the business and support ON's policy on the responsible use of resources, sustainability and value-adding operations in the long term.
This, and the recent debate about whether the operating environment for innovation companies in Iceland is sufficiently clear and predictable, is the topic of the article Innovation does not thrive in uncertainty written by Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir, innovation lead at ON Power, and published on Vísir today.
In the article, Ingunn points out that innovation is built on courage, investment and long-term thinking, but that an unpredictable operating environment can hinder progress. She emphasizes that companies and communities need clear rules and a stable environment for new ideas to become reality.
Ingunn stresses that for Iceland to continue to lead in the use of renewable energy and the development of new solutions, conditions must be created in which innovation can thrive. What matters is ensuring a balance between regulation, incentives and long-term policy.
Ingunn's article is an important contribution to the discussion about the future of innovation in Iceland and a reminder that clear policy and stability are prerequisites for ideas to become real solutions.
“Innovation does not need praise in words but trust in action. It needs clear messages, a predictable path and an environment that encourages people and companies to dare to develop, test and build. The task is clear: to ensure that regulation and public-sector implementation support innovation with clear criteria, consistent interpretation and predictability.”
Ingunn is taking part in Innovation Week (Iceland Innovation Week) in the event Building Together – Innotvation Ecosystems in Energy, Food & Climate which will take place in Austurbær tomorrow at 11:42. The discussion will cover collaboration among the companies in Jarðhitagarður, Climeworks, VAXA Technologies and Carbfix and, of course, innovation.
