Goodbye to range anxiety

“Everything indicates that the charging anxiety, which many of us have suffered from, is now loosening its grip on the nation,” says Úlfar Linnet, Director of Individual and Corporate Solutions at ON, in a new article published on Vísir.

In the article, Úlfar discusses an interesting trend in the use of fast-charging stations across the country. Data shows that their use increased by 50% year-on-year, while the number of electric cars increased by 20%. In his view, this indicates that more people are now choosing to use the electric car as the family's primary vehicle, also for longer trips around the country.

“I believe the most likely explanation for the increased use is that this summer, the electric car has finally established itself as the family's primary travel vehicle,” writes Úlfar, pointing out that although the fast-charging network has long made it possible to drive all the way around the country, it took time for the technology and infrastructure to overcome charging anxiety.

In the article, he recalls that eight years ago it was advertised that the fast-charging network was powerful enough to drive electric cars all over the country. However, experience showed that it took time for users to fully trust the technology.

“Based on the developments this summer, there is a strong indication that that day has arrived,” he says.

Electric car better for the environment and the wallet

Úlfar also describes his own experience with electric car travel and how technological advancements have changed the experience in recent years. He recalls when drivers had to save electricity by reducing the use of the heater, but says those days are gone.

“Now it is never too cold in the car, and if I get too hot, I just roll down the window and let the cold air in,” he writes, adding that the electric car is not only better for the environment but also for the wallet and family harmony during travels.

Úlfar's article sheds light on how the increased development of charging infrastructure, better technology, and changing user attitudes seem to have combined to make the electric car increasingly a natural choice for travel around the country.
