The geothermal run received a great response and was a real success

On Power's Geothermal Trail Run took place yesterday evening in the magnificent nature of the Hengill area. Despite rain leaving its mark on part of the race, participants did not let the weather hold them back, and a fantastic atmosphere was created from start to finish. The run was well attended, and participants enjoyed tackling a challenging but exceptionally beautiful route in the heart of one of the country's most powerful geothermal areas.

The route, which is about 13 kilometers long, lies through a diverse landscape where lava fields, streams, vegetation, and steam vents form a unique setting. The start was at the Hellisheiði Power Station, and the running route led into Sleggjubeinsdalur, up to Sleggjubeinsskarð, through Innstadalur, and along Skarðsmýrarfjall. Runners then came back down to the power plant, where joy and music welcomed them on their way to the finish line. It was wonderful to see how many runners turned up to take part and were able to enjoy the outdoors and the beautiful environment around the power station.

The first competitors to cross the finish line in the race were:

Men:

  1. Snorri Eyþór Einarsson              00:56:55

  2. Atli Steinn Sveinbjörnsson       00:56:59

  3. Magnús Stefánsson                   00:57:18

Women:

  1. Jóhanna Skúladóttir Ólafs        01:04:02

  2. Ellie Clemensen                         01:07:17

  3. Sigríður Dröfn Auðunsdóttir     01:09:23

Recently, ON Power and Reykjavík Energy published a new map of the hiking trails in Hengill, but Reykjavík Energy has been responsible for creating and maintaining hiking trails in the area since 1991, in consultation with the surrounding local authorities. Here you can learn more about the area and view the hiking trail map.

On Power thanks all participants, volunteers, and partners who made the run as successful as it turned out to be.
