What do project managers do at work?

The Project Management Office (PMO) of ON Power plays a key role in advancing the company’s diverse investment projects, and there are usually more than 100 projects underway at ON. Among the largest projects the project management office is currently managing are the so-called borehole program, the expansion of the power plant at Hellisheiði, and the renewal of the control system at Nesjavellir.

The project management office gets involved in projects right at the early stage and follows them through until the work is completed. The role of project managers includes coordinating the work of different specialists, keeping track of project progress, and ensuring that ideas become actual projects.

“It can be complicated to explain exactly what project managers do,” say Kristín Guðmundsdóttir, head of the ON Project Management Office, and Alexandra Einarsdóttir and Einar Kristinsson, investment project managers at ON. They discuss that in a new episode of the podcast Orkan í náttúrunni, as well as the work of a project manager, the role of the Project Management Office, what they enjoy most about the job, and what challenges they face in their work.

In the episode, listeners also get insight into how projects develop from the first idea to a completed project, and how important collaboration and good project management are in building ON Power’s infrastructure.
