Temporary closure of ON Power’s Geothermal Exhibition at Hellisheiði

In light of the uncertainty regarding the spread of the Corona virus, ON Power (ON) has decided to temporarily close down the Geothermal Exhibition at the Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant.

The Geothermal Exhibition is unlike other tourist attractions in that it is located in the same building as a power plant. The employees of the Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant operate an important part of Iceland’s infrastructure, and the closure is to minimize the risk of key employees becoming infected.

There is no suspicion of contagion at this point, and this is purely a precautionary measure. The closing down is one of the actions that Reykjavík Energy and its subsidiaries have engaged in to prevent disturbance of the companies’ basic public services.

During the winter-season, the Geothermal Exhibition welcomes around 200 visitors per day.

The employees of the Geothermal Exhibition are working on finding solutions for groups that have already booked their visits. The Exhibition will be closed as of Thursday, March 5, 2020.

ON is contacting stakeholders regarding this decision, which will be reviewed on a regular basis.
